I don't like dry chilli powder heat in my curries so just added Kashmiri LAL Mirch powder for the reddish color only. The Thecha and Misal Masala powder compensates the heat and spiciness.
If you want, add the butter after serving it in individual bowls.
I grilled/ toasted the Pao/ Pav with butter and had it.
The Misal with Potato & Farsan ( Sev) & the topping of onion, tomato, cilantro & a dash of lemon juice, the Thecha, the Misal Masala powder and the butter toasted Pav all complements each other and hence a great combo to have and entice your taste buds.
Note :
3/4 CUP ( approx. 150 gms ) Dried Matki/ Moth Beans yields 2 cups of Sprouted Matki / Moth Beans.

Ingredients and spices that need to be Take to make Misal Pav (Sprouted Moth Beans):

  2. For Usal / Misal
  3. 3/4 cup Matki / Moth Beans (150 gms)
  4. 1 pinch Baking Soda
  5. 100-200 ml Oil
  6. Handful leaves Curry / Kadi Patta
  7. 2 Onion chopped (200 gms)
  8. 2 tbsps Ginger garlic paste
  9. 2 Tomatoes Chopped (200 gms)
  10. 2Tsps Turmeric powder
  11. as needed Chilli powder as per taste and the color of the Tari wanted
  12. as per taste Salt
  13. For Serving and Garnishing
  14. 6 About small Potatoes boiled
  15. as needed Farsan / Sev Bhujia
  16. as needed Onion chopped
  17. as needed Tomato Chopped
  18. as needed Cilantro Chopped
  19. as needed Lemon juice
  20. as required Chilli Thecha

Instructions to make Misal Pav (Sprouted Moth Beans)

  1. Wash & soak the beans overnight or 6-7 hours till it becomes soft. Drain the water out on a cheesecloth or muslin cloth on a colander. Cover and sprout the beans for 24-48 hours. If it's a very hot place, keep it in fridge. The cloth should always be damp/ wet. Once it sprouts to your desire, wash the brand thoroughly. Pressure cook the Sprouted with baking soda for 6-7 whistles and 4 cups water. Let the pressure release by itself.
  2. Heat oil on a Vessel, add curry leaves/ Kadi Patta. Then add the onions. When it starts becomimg red, as the ginger garlic paste and saute it more. At last add the tomatoes and cook and saute it more till tomatoes gets cooked nicely. In the process, add the turmeric and chilli powder too.
  3. Now add the pressure cooked Sprouted Moth Beans and mix well. Add salt as per taste. If needed add more water (I didn't add any water as the consistency was fine for me). Cook further till the beans gets blended nicely with the gravy and the red chilli oil/ TARI starts floating above. Your Usal / Misal is ready to be served.

  4. In individual plate, smash and add boiled potato, add Farsan/ Sev Bhujia and add the cooked beans, if you want TARI add it on top. Top it with onion, tomato, cilantro and lemon juice and serve with Misal Masala Powder, Thecha along with Pav (Butter Toasted Pav taste divine with it).
