" Aloo chop" is a snack originating from Bengal, also widely available in Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand. It is made out of boiled potato and various spices. "Aloo" means "potato" and "Chop" means "a small cutlet fritters" in Bengali. It is served hot and warm along with tea and puffed rice ( muri), Or tomoro ketchup and salad. Its also a famous street food in Kolkata....

Ingredients and spices that need to be Take to make Bengali Aloo Chop:

  1. 3 medium size potatoes, boiled, peeled and grated
  2. 2 tbsp oil
  3. 1/3 cup chopped onion
  4. 1 tsp ginger paste
  5. 1/2 tsp garlic paste
  6. 2 green chillies finely chopped
  7. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  8. 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  9. 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  10. to taste Salt
  11. 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  12. 1/4 cup fried peanut
  13. For Batter:-
  14. 1 cup besan (gram flour)
  15. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  16. 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  17. Pinch baking soda
  18. as per taste Salt
  19. as required mustard Oil for deep frying
  20. 1/2 cup water

Steps to make Bengali Aloo Chop

  1. Firstly, in a large kadai heat 2 tbsp oil,add chopped onion and saute for about 2 minutes. Add ginger paste, garlic paste, stir well then add chopped green chillies. Saute till the onion turns translucent, about 2 minutes. Toss in turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chili powder. Stir well.
  2. Now add boiled grated potato and chopped coriander leaves, salt to taste. Mix everything very well and cook for about 2-3 minutes that masala perfectly mix with potatoes.
  3. Switch off the flame add fried peanut. Mix it well with potatoes and keep it aside.
  4. Now in a big bowl, take 1 cup besan add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt to taste and baking soda and make a thick semi liquid lumps free batter by adding water gradually.
  5. Now take a small sized aloo mixture, flatten slightly, dip in besan batter and coat uniformly.
  6. Deep fry in hot oil, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once aloo chop turns golden brown colour drain off over kitchen paper.
  8. Serve it hot warm with tea, puffed rice or tomato ketchup and salad....
