Aloo Chop is a famous street food in various states of the country. The process of making Aloo Chop is similar to Batata Vada or Bonda. Ingredients and spices that need to be Make ready to make Aloo Chop:
- For potato (Aloo) Stuffing
- 3 mediun size potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 tbsp mustard oil
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 green chilli, finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp Cummin powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves
- 1 tsp salt or to taste
- For gram flour (besan) batter.
- 1 cup gram flour (besan)
- 2 tbsp rice flour
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp carom seeds
- 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
- 1/2 cup water or as required
- as needed Oil to deep fried chop
Steps to make Aloo Chop
- Firstly, heat 1 tablespoon oil in a small pan or kadai. Add in chopped onions. Saute onions on a low to medium flame till they turn translucent.
- Further, add in ginger-garlic paste and chopped chilli. Mix and saute till raw aroma of ginger - garlic goes away.
- Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and salt, mix everything well.
Then add mashed potatoes and mix well. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add coriander leaves and mix well. Turn off flame.
Stuffing is ready.
Let it come to the room temperature. - Meanwhile make besan batter
In a mixing bowl take besan, rice flour, carom seeds, turmeric powder and salt. Gradually add water and whisk to a smooth and thick batter. Do add water as required. Depending on the quality of besan, you can add less or more water. - Further, make small to medium sized potato cutlet or patties from prepared stuffing.
Keep it ready. - Heat oil for deep frying in a kadai. Add a small spoon of the batter in the oil. If the batter comes up steadily on top of the oil, the oil is ready for frying.
- Dip the potato cutlet in the besan batter and coat it well with the batter. Now gently place them in the hot oil.
Fry the Aloo Chops on medium flame until golden and crisp.
Similarly fry all the Aloo Chop
- Serve hot Aloo Chop with you favorite spicy and tangy chutney. I also love to enjoy these Chop with murmura (pop rice)
